Winter Accessory: Scarves

September 24, 2009

It’s important to keep warm this fall. but it’s also important to look chic while doing it! One of my favorite ways to keep warm is layering. A good way to add a quick layer on the way out the door is a scarf! You can never have enough, especially because scarves have become a year-round accessory. Something that keeps you warm, adds colors, layering, an accent, and is beautiful…yes, please! These days, the definition of scarf is so broad, including, wraps, different materials, styles, and prints.

Statement Scarves:

0408718449652R__A1_300x400This Alexander McQueen Pashmina Skull Scarf is a great statement scarf. The material is traditional, but the skulls add edge to any outfit.

Alexander McQueen, $455

Here are some more scarves by Alexander McQueen.

Alexander McQueen Oversized Cotton Skull Scarf [in pink], $315

Alexander McQueen Chiffon Skull Scarf [in white], $260

Alexander McQueen Marilyn Chiffon Skull Scarf, $410

Ruffles are in and adorning dresses and blouses in a lot of collections! Now, ruffles on scarves! The Ralph Lauren Collection includes a Silk Charmeuse Ruffle Scarf, $995. This scarf is beautiful and romantic.

Another trend this season includes embellishments. Here, Vera Wang‘s Sequined Chiffon Scarf, $495, is a great eye-catcher for any ensemble. The romantic sequins add to the great navy color for this fall.

YSL‘s Leopard-Knit Scarf, $495, is a sassy accessory. Wear is with a plain white, black, or grey top, in order to not over-do the ensemble.

Infinity Scarves:

Burberry‘s collection includes a giant loop scarf in the traditional checkered pattern. $295

Two colors on an infinity scarf is a great twist! Bi-color accessories add great color combinations. Chan Luu, $75

Cashmere is luxurious and warm, which is what Donna Karan  created with this Infinity Cashmere Loop scarf, $695

Designer, Donna Karan, used a combination of italian lambswool and cashmere to create another luscious infinity scarf under the designers other collection, DKNY. This Luxe Knit Infinity Loop, $75, comes in 4 different colors, black, camel, green, and purple [shown].

Portolano‘s Cashmere Blend Loop, $150,  is a neck warmer infinity scarf that would look great with a coat, top, or sweater. The cowl neck feel keeps you warm and stylish!

Rag & Bone created a great infinity scarf with a creative twist! Rag & Bone’s Twisted Merino Hood Loop, $175, has a great hood that can be used on colder days or let down to add more layering. The button on the back is a great detail to the scarf.

The length of this Chan Luu Crinkle Fringe Scarf, $95, makes a statement. The long fridge detail gives a bohemian feel.

Gucci has some amazing triangle, fringe scarves this season. Ranging from subtle GG patterns to mutli-colored. The thickness of the scarves adds great layering and can be dressed up or down in any chic ensemble.

Gucci GG Pattern Shawl [top], $395

Gucci GG Metallic Pattern Shawl [middle], $395

Gucci Triangle Fringe Scarf [bottom], $350

This Juicy Couture, $78, plaid scarf has fringe, as well as, tassels.

Another plaid scarf with fringe is this Janie Besner Gingham Smocked Scarf, $32. The length is great and adds many layers to your outfit! This scarf comes in 3 color combinations, black & purple [shown], black & red, and black & white.

This tassel wrap scarf can be found at Nordstrom. The length and thickness makes for a cozy piece. Nordstrom tassel Wrap Scarf, $68.

_5912245 The Nordstrom Tassel Wrap comes in 4 colors, black, camel, viola, and teal [not shown]. It can be worn in various ways.

Pologeorgis dyed Rabbit Chinchilla Scarf has a pull-through loop for easy styling. $350

NMD022C_mtGucci rabbit fur scarf, 1,200, with GG pattern detail.

The Nordstrom Cashmere wrap, $198 is a classic addition to an ensemble.  This luxurious cashmere wrap comes in various colors.

Burberry‘s Cashmere Check Scarf is a classic accessory. This will never go out of style and is a great investment. $295

This basic Loro Piana Scialle Nuvola Cavarly Scarf, $795, is a beautiful cashmere and silk blend. Made in Italy.

Loro Piana  Metallic Dream Stole, $825, is stunning. This shimmering Italian knit is a combination of cashmere/viscose/silk/metallic.

The bi-color Lora Piana Stola Aylit Evening wrap, 1,825, is a creative twist on a classic wrap. This Italian cashmere/silk combination is a great piece.

I loved the idea behind the bi-color scarves, but decided to take the idea and run with it. I decided I needed something a little bit warmer and tried two scarves together. I then added a brooch to the scarf to add some excitement and creativity to it. It’s fun to experience and try different colors together. Here, I wrapped it on my mom real quick to see how it would turn out.

Well, there are a ton more scarves out there, but here a few trends and examples to get you started!

Saturation Point

September 22, 2009

The September issue of Marie Claire is full of great fashion and colors for this fall. The Saturation Point photo shoot looks amazing. It is filled with great ensembles and tons of rich, deep colors. I loved it so much that I wanted to share it with you! Sometimes we flip through the magazine so fast that we miss the great items that are put onto the models to complete a look.

[photographed by Fabio Chizzola. Fashion editor Tiffany Fraser Steele]

Hello, Merlot.

This look is one of my favorites. One wouldn’t imagine putting together a rich red Dior coat with a Anna Kula scarf in magenta, but here, the look is complete. The jacket caught my eye, which then shifted my focus to the full scarf around the model. It looks so comfortable and warm, yet, polished. It’s a great fall look. Unfortunately, I was not a fan of the pink bangle.

Jacket: Dior, $3,790

Top: John Smedley, $275

Pants: M Missoni, $475

Shoes: Yves Saint Laurent, $895

Bag: Yves Saint Laurent, 1,895

Scarf: Anna Jula, $225

Bangle: A.V. Max, $65

The mix of different pinks and purple look great here. These colors brighten up fall!  The rich purple clutch is great for day and night. I wish Marie Claire photographed the entire dress.

Dress: Louis Vuitton, $2,846

Bag: Gucci, $895

Gloves: Carolina Amato, $375

Red Over Heels

The oversized DKN coat seems to me intimidating and almost overwhelming, but imagine all the layers you could put on underneath the coat to stay warm this fall/winter. The rich blue Carolina Amato gloves are elegant, yet, fun. Again, I am not a fan of the A.V. Max bangle.

Coat: DKNY, $695

Shoes: Yves Saint Laurent, $695

Bangle: A.V. Max, $65

Gloves: Carolina Amato, $250

I love scarves, which is why it is no surprise that I am in love with this scarf in this season’s color, eggplant. The coat is busy enough that it does not need such a rich, attention-grabbing scarf, but nonetheless, who could overshadow a Chanel jacket?

Jacket: Chanel, price upon request

Top: John Smedley, $275

Scarf: Armand Diradourian, $438

Bag: Devi Kroell, $1,490

Blue Period

Want a jaw dropping color? Here it is. This rich blue is stunning. Also, the mix of shades and hues of blue is fantastic. Usually, dressing head to toe in one color is unbearable, tacky, and a huge no-no, but this is outstanding. This monochromatic ensemble has out did itself and shows how to do it the right way.

Dress: Donna Karan New York, $2,295

Belt: Donna Karan New York, $395

  Top: John Smedley, $275

Necklace: Louis Vuitton, $1,288

Gloves: Carolina Amato, $300

The mix of color is great here, while the upper half is bright and stands out, the bottom equals out the ensemble by being more of a neutral. Every girl should have some sort of red accessory to add a pop of color into any outfit. This red choice is great and shows how much power an attention-grabbing red piece can be.

Cardigan: Rodebjer, $470

Top: Cynthia Rowley, $220

Skirt: Lanvin, $1,123

Necklace: R.J. Graziano, $75

Belt: Club Monaco, $39

Gloves: Carolina Amato, $375

Green Sleeves

What’s not to love from this outfit? A combination of some of this season’s richest colors. The two toned, over-the-elbow gloves and the deep, rich structured green top is great.

Top: Marc Jacobs, $950

Skirt: Marc Jacobs, $1,200

Turtleneck: Christopher Fischer, $295

Bag: Roger Vivier, $1,795

Belt: United Colors of Benetton, $39

Gloves: Carolina Amato, $250

2009 Emmy Awards Red Carpet Fashion

September 20, 2009

Olivia Wilde from House MD is wearing Marchesa. Beautiful!

Heidi Klum is pregnant and fabulous. Klum is in her third trimester and is expecting a girl.

Christina Hendricks looked great in navy, but the dress was a too tight on her body.

Mila Kunis wore a burgundy tulle layered dress. She paired the dress with statement heels that looked out of this world! I love the length of the dress and the detail on top with the tulle straps and heart shaped strapless.

Grecian Goddess, Leighton Meister, is stunning in a white Bottega Veneta gown. I absolutely love the red lips matching the red clutch. Meister looks so sophisticated and put together.

Bottega Veneta on the runway.

Alyson Hannigan is wearing one of my favorite colors for this fall.

Jennifer Love Hewitt kept the focus on her soft yellow gown by limited her accessories. Also, I loved her hair.

Perrey Reeves from Entourage.

Who exactly let Phoebe Price out of the house dressed like this? I hope I don’t need to list off everything that is wrong with this ensemble.

The color of Sarah Silverman’s dress had potential, but what exactly is going on below the waist? She doesn’t usually dress girly and formal for events such as these, but the one time she does, it’s a fail. The dress makes her look larger than she is.

Cat Deeley wore a beautiful gown with great accessories. The color could have been different, but nonetheless, beautiful.

As of now, I am unsure how I feel about Kara Dioguardi’s gown. The front detail is beautiful, but there is something awkward about the dress, itself. Maybe the longer sleeves?

I like the detail on the Kyra Sedgwick’s shoulder on her left, but I am not a fan of the trim throughout the gown or the color. It kind of looks like it should be a curtain in a nursery.

January Jones wore a statement Versace gown.

Interesting. Shaun Robinson wore a short dress to the award show.

Nancy O’Dell’s dress fit her nicely, but did she really pick a multi-colored semi tie-dyed dress? Also, I am not a fan of her accessories.

Mad Men‘s Elizabeth Moss, wore a beautiful gown with an embellished neck, but the color did not look good on her skin tone. Also, the dress itself is hard to handle because it wrinkles easily. Always try, move, bend, and sit when buying a new dress for an important event, in order to prepare for such occurrences.

Jennifer Carpenter of Dexter looked stunning in this gown. The dress fit her perfectly and looked amazing with her makeup and hair.

Kristen Chenoweth wore a short, embellished dress. This dress looked great on her and made her sparkle!

kristen chenoweth

Julia Dryfus wore a great color. I loved this Vera Wang gown and it looked fabulous on her. She could have also added a bracelet or larger earrings.

julia dryfus

Samantha Who?’s Christina Applegate looked stunning! Another great gown in one of my favorite fall colors. The perfect amount of embellishment. The dress fit her so well.

Julie Benz wore a short dress in the heat and looked fabulous. I loved the crystal embellishments. Also, the shape of the dress is different than most and Benz pulled it off!

Debra Messing always looks amazing on the red carpet, but was it necessary to take a beautiful gown and blend in with the carpet that you are standing on? Messing is wearing Michael Kors.

Samantha Harris looked great in this green color. I would never imagine this color on the red carpet and she pulled it off!

Blake Lively looked amazing and the design of the Versace dress was gorgeous, but I wish she had more of a fun, flirty, and youthful hairstyle.

Hayden Panettiere also looked stunning in red, but the random one cap sleeve is throwing it off.

I didn’t really like Drew Barrymore’s gown. I was not a fan of the color or the feel of it. It looks like they didn’t have time to finish it.

Victoria Rowell. Did this really happen? Did she really wear this to the award show? Is this a child’s bed sheet or a towel? Is this a joke towards the red carpet or towards President Obama? Who let her wear this? Who actually made this? Was it just a long piece of fabric from the store wrapped around her body? There are so many questions because I want to know exactly Rowell was thinking!! ugh.

Jessica Lowndes’s dress was a length you do not usually see, but it would have looked great if the heels were not strappy. This dress would have been great if it was paired with a black satin pump, rather than ankle straps. Nonetheless, it’s feminine and sexy.

The Kardashian Sisters looked amazing. Kourtney Kardashian (left) had a pregnancy glow in this beautiful gown and sister, Kim Kardashian (right), looked stunning in a one-shoulder gown. Kim could have replaced the large hoops with statement chandelier earrings, while Kourtney could have added a statement necklace with her simple, yet, elegant gown.

Kim Kardashian looked so sophisticated and sexy!

Rose Byrne looked like she was going to prom, rather than an awards show.

I loved Kate Walsh’s gray J.Mendel gown. It looked even more stunning as she presented on stage with Chandra Wilson. Great choice!

Grey’s Anatomy’s Chandra Wilson wore a black strapless gown with floral detail on the bottom. Wilson paired her dress with Chopard diamonds.

l like the idea behind Sandra Oh’s Marchea gown, but she did not need the tassel belt. It looked like a tassel from a duvet cover or curtain decorations. I know this year is accessory overload, but the belt was completely unnecessary, weird, and tacky. She paired the gold beaded dress with red Jimmy Choo heels.

Vanessa Williams is daring in this vivid color and dramatic statement earrings.

Lindsay Price picked an eggplant color that looked great on her! The draping was feminine and elegant.

Glenn Close looks elegant in her black gown as she accepts her Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.

Cherry Jones also looked elegant in black as she wins for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama.

I am not sure how I feel about Alicia Witt. The dress is kind of an awkward length and the embellishments on the top are different.

Tina Fey picked a great “safety” dress by Gucci.

Mary-Louise Parker looked great in eggplant, but the dress itself was a little awkward.

Ginnifer Goodwin wore a great color, but the dress itself was awkward with uneven hemlines and weird draping. Also, the glass necklace and accessories was not an elegant choice as I believe she was going for. On a positive note, I did love her plunging V-neck.

I did not like Chloe Sevigny’s polka dot gown. What is on her left hip? This is horrible.

Entourage’s Jamie-Lynn Sigler looked amazing in her gold Donna Karan ensemble. The draping cowl neck looks great on her!

Toni Collette looked fabulous while accepting the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.

From The Office, Jenna Fischer, looked great in a tight fitting black gown.

What exactly is going on here in Padma Lakshmi’s gown? The flowers on the stomach? The random halter and shoulder strings? Great color…not so great gown.

Amy Poehler and Will Arnett looked great in black.

Dancing with the Stars judge, Carrie Ann Inaba. The dress had a little too much going on…pockets, high slit, belt, and a bold color.

Angela Kinsey wore red on the red carpet. Unsure how I feel about her gown.

Adrienne Frantz looks stunning in this silver gown. Elegant.

Melora Hardin looked great in yellow, but it kind of had a senior prom feel.

Sigourney Weaver’s dress was too tight on her body shape, but the color was great.

Fashion Highlights from the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards

September 13, 2009

The 2009 Mtv Video Music Awards are never less than interesting! There is always some sort of controversy afterwards. Well, without a doubt, there is always fashion to talk about. This year, there were some outstanding picks and some horrendous ensembles. Check it out for yourselves!

Lady Gaga has one distinct and individual taste! I knew that she would show up to the awards in something controversial, but she even shocked me with her first initial red carpet number. Also, if you did not get to see the show, definitely watch her performance.

Katy Perry looked great in this dress. Her shoes were fabulous! She kind of gave me a Wonder Woman sense.

Katy Perry shared a moment with the newest member of The Hills on Mtv, Kristin Cavallari, also wearing a statement dress in silver.

More from The Hills on Mtv, Lauren Conrad looked sophisticated.

Lauren Conrad‘s best friend, Lo Bosworth, also made an appearance.

The dress was great, but it made her look and feel a little older than her age. She could have pulled have a fun, flirty cocktail dress!

I thought I would never say this, but The Hills star, Stephanie Pratt, looked amazing. Her 1920’s inspired embellished mini cocktail dress looked fabulous with her jewelry and long hair.

Former The Hills star, Whitney Port, is now starring in her own show, The City on Mtv. She definitely showed off her New York City style with this number. I love it. It’s different, yet, extremely feminine. I would recommend this dress any day.

Uh-Oh! Shakira and Pink showed up on the red carpet wearing the same Balmain dress! Pink paired her dress with stilettos, while, Shakira wore [extremely tight] over-the-knee boots.

Jennifer Lopez wore a dress from the Louis Vuitton Fall 2009 collection paired with Christian Louboutin peep toe lace up pump with a leopard print heel. I have seen J.Lo look stunning on the red carpet before, but what happened tonight?

Ashley Greene did a great job with her 80’s inspired metallic mini, but she could have left the white clutch and zebra themes shoes at home.

Alexa Chung‘s dress was great for early fall with 3/4 length sleeves on a short dress.

Olivia Palermo looks great in this black dress with leopard print accents.

Alicia Keys worked the stage in the final performance, as well as, worked this dress!

I am still debating if I like Leighton Meester‘s dress or not. The shoes are interesting and would make a great statement piece, but not with the dress she wore.

Fefe Dobson rocked this outfit.

I wasn’t a big fan of Cassie‘s dress, but she can pull it off. Apparently, she can pull off anything.

Nelly Furtado wore a beautiful embellished dress and to die for black heels to match, but her chandelier earrings took attention away from the great dress.

Mario Menounos picked a feminine, bubble strapless cocktail dress. Did anyone notice the blond streaks in Menounos‘s hair matched the sequin embellishments on her dress.

A member from the Pussycat Dolls, Melody Thornton, looked stunning in this skin-tight black dress and sky-high heels. Amazing!

Kara DioGuardi wore a one-shoulder, belted black dress with sexy heels.

Karli Henriquez matched all the wrong pieces into one wrong ensemble! What was she thinking when she paired these items together?

There are some mixed feelings of Beyonce‘s red-hot dress, but I am going to have to say how much I love it! A sassy red mini with a deep neck ruffles is gorgeous!

Rap artist, Kid Sister, looked like a rocker, as she dressed up a t-shirt with embellished leggings and bright pink metallic heels.

Solange Knowles wore a micro mini, one sleeve black dress with creative accents. The black satin heels are fabulous! Also, her bright pink lipstick and nail polish looked great!

Amerie‘s dress looked great on her skin tone and shaped her body well. I like the 3/4 length sleeve, but what is the cactus jewelry on her ankle?

Taylor Swift looked stunning in this embellished gown. But, for her age, a shorter cocktail dress would have been great!

What was Adrienne Bailon thinking when she paired a bright yellow and pink dress with black boots? The dress could have worked if it was in a different color.

Amanda Bynes wore a black mini with black heels. Simply, yet, sexy!

Another black dress worn by Alessandra Ambrosio. Ambrosio wore sexy peep toe ankle boots and dressed up the black fringe dress with great accessories.

Miranda Cosgrove wore a fun and flirt embellished mini.

I loved Nikki Hilton‘s LBD with a diagonal raw zipper with matching raw zipper pockets. The embellished statement shoes add to the ensemble. I, also, really liked the simple hair and lack of accessories because all the focus can be pointed to the dress and shoes.

Keri Hilson is the only one who could pull off a black neck plunging jumpsuit with a front raw zipper and embellishments on the shoulders.

What is there to say about this fashion icon, Roberto Cavalli? Genius.

Travis Payne pulled off this embellished jacket.

Taylor Lautner looks hot hot hot! Look at that amazing suit and tie-less look. Gorgeous!

Not shocked with Perez Hilton‘s choice of clothing, but what is with the yellow hands?

Andy Samberg‘s casual look is one of my favorites on guys.

Chace Crawford looks amazing! But you don’t need me to tell you that. Just look at him.

Jack Black. No comment is necessary for this man.

Gerard Butler wore a nice brown leather coat with matching shoes, but his pants were a little too big on him.

Pitbull looked sexy in this gorgeous suit and eggplant purple tie.

DJ Cassidy blended into the red carpet with this horrendous red on red ensemble.

Sean Paul is always dressed to impress, but he could have done without the random vest and the fact that “D&G” vomited onto this shoe.

Jimmy Fallon looked great in his jeans and coat look.

Sean Kingston‘s coat looked great on him, but black slacks would have looked better than jeans.

Tristan Wilds looks good and is handsome in the collared shirt with sweater, but there is something off about the coat. The coat lacked shape and looked more of a box.

Not only was Kanye West‘s unexpected outburst insulting, immature, and trashy, but so is this ensemble. The jeans are decent, but the light wash should be left in the closet for laid back afternoons with his friends. The shiny material of the shirt is unbearable and I feel as though it would probably stick to his skin in the heat. Also, was it necessary to bring alcohol on the red carpet? No wonder he yelled on stage during Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech…he was drunk! Okay, okay, I really do love his sunglasses though! Speaking of horrible dressed, what is Amber Rose trying to pull off? This is proof that models cannot pull off anything they want. Exactly, what was she thinking? Worst Dressed Couple.

P.Diddy and his new group, Dirty Money, looked great on the red carpet. The black on black looked great on each of the. The jewelry and shoes looked fabulous on the women and the black and cream suit on Diddy is sexy. I loved how he mixed a little cream color into his suit.

Djimon Hounsou and Kimora Lee Simmons made a great looking couple on the red carpet. Hounsou looked great in his slimming suit and bright pink collared shirt with black tie. Simmons shined in a black mini with an opposite attracting boyfriend blazer and embellished heels. She looked feminine and strong.

Asher Roth looked great posing next to his friend in this cardigan look. I love a man in a cardigan. asher-roth-16950721

The men of Fall Out Boy all have their own unique style. Each member brings something different to the group, which is great! It’s really refreshing to see a group of guys not dressed alike on the red carpet, just because they are in the same band.

The members of Green Day also looked great in their individual suits. I love the grey blazers and the leopard print tie is a different touch!

This is just the start of all the many stars that had attended the awards this year! Try to recreate what you liked about the outfits or just sit back and enjoy the trends. If you haven’t had a chance to catch the Mtv Video Music Awards live, then definitely watch it when they rerun the entire show. It is worth to see all the fashion, as well as, the performances [and let’s be honest, Kanye West losing his mind].

Eggplant Isn’t Just a Delicious Vegetable Anymore…

September 12, 2009

This fall, you may notice various shades and hues of purple [including, eggplant, lilac, violet,

and plum] for every occasion.

What to wear with aubergine?

Eggplant is in this fall! It’s a color that can add fun and elegance to any closet. The beautiful color

will look good on any skin tone and any type of woman. Eggplant is a creative twist to purple and

can drastically change up the color palette of your ensemble. Try it as a color accent with your

earrings or a pair of shoes. Go bolder and try the color on as a cocktail dress or cardigan. Purple

was once associated with royalty…who said that has to change? Go ahead and dress like a queen!

However you wear it and whenever you wear it, I promise that you will receive glances and

compliments all day. Don’t forget to accessorize, put on some lipgloss, and flash your biggest smile

because you are going to shine bright!
